Finally Took Some Photos Again

This last Sunday morning I brought out my camera and drove up to Knights Ferry to take some pictures. Here’s one of the river with a covered bridge in the background.

Still Not Gettin Any

Last night I had a dream in which people could meet up in a virtual reality environment, like in the Matrix movies. Like in the movies, when you are in this virtual reality, all the feelings and sensations are as immediate and immersive as in real life. One of the primary activities was to have virtual sex, naturally.  So in this dream, I’ve just joined a gathering of people (who mostly seemed to know each other; i.e. not total strangers) who are pairing up for some purely recreational (and absolutely safe) sex.  And I pair up, too, but my dream never gets to the sex!  We fly off (like in Second Life) to do a little exploring and find some interesting little out-of-the-way place to have our fun, but my dream meandered into other things and I never got any.  Even in my dreams I never get any!  Oh, the humanity!

A Memory Drifted By

Yesterday on the way home I saw a helium filled balloon drifting by between some trees. Instead of going mostly up, as such balloons usually do, this one drifted mostly level. It reminded me of a wonderful movie I saw as a kid, “The Red Balloon.” And through the magic of Youtube, here is a clip from it.

You can see the whole thing in four parts: one, two, three, four.

Crooks and Liars posted a Youtube video about shock treatment, torture, the economy, and government policy. I thought this a nice opportunity to test linking to Youtube videos here. So here you go. Watch and “enjoy.”

Job Update #679

Today, for the first time in a few weeks, I felt like I couldn’t do this job.  For the last three days I’ve been on a route that is not only long, but gets a lot of mail.  Today I had six full trays of flats mail to deliver, in addition to four trays of DPS mail.  Two to three trays of flats would be more normal.  This morning my supervisor told me “It’s all got to go,” so I ended up casing tub after tub of catalogs and magazines and other bulk mail.  I didn’t get out onto the street until well after noon.  There was no way I could deliver all that and get back by even 6 p.m., having started so late.  Towards the end he sent two carriers to help, and we were able to get back to the office just before 6 p.m.  And today I didn’t deliver any coverage at all (coverage = Advo, Penny Savers, or Modesto Bee ads supplements).  Hopefully, if I get this same route again tomorrow, there will be much less standard mail to case and I can get out of the office a few hours earlier.  Will Sunday never get here?

Job Update #648

Well, I’m working a little less this week. Besides getting Monday off for the holiday, the supervisors had me come in at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. They sent me out doing an extra collection run. Yesterday I went in at the usual time and they sent me home, telling me to return at 11 a.m. again. But a little while later one called on my cell phone and sent me to the Hudson station. I ended up doing an all-driving route. Now today I’m again going in at 11 a.m. It’s almost 10 a.m. as I write this. I haven’t turned on my cell phone yet. In a few minutes I will and see if they have any messages for me. Maybe I’ll get the day off. Maybe they’ll send me to Hudson again, or to Paradise. Or they may have a (part of a) route for me. Who knows?

Update: I just turned on the cell phone and receieved two voice mails. They’ve given me the day off! I guess no one’s on vacation this week. I saved the messages so I can play them back if need be. Guess I can get some house cleaning done and work on that website. (I should probably blog about that…)
