Trying to get back into blogging regularly — so here is a striking photo I found in the “Middle Earth” group at flickr. Looks like an intriguing place to visit.  Judging from the one of the other pools the photographer placed this in, this photo was taken in some national park in Quebec, Canada.  If you like it, just click the picture and you can leave a comment on f/G’s photo page.

Here’s a report of researchers restoring vision in patients with corneal damage by coating contact lenses with stem cells.  It looks like that vat of rejuvenating stem cells is one step closer.

This Dilbert strip makes a good point. Capitalism can’t work if people (or groups of people, such as in a corporation) cannot trust one another. That’s why we have contracts and courts to enforce contracts, so people can enforce agreements if trust breaks down.

It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow and I’m taking my mother out to breakfast.  We’re going early, so maybe we’ll beat the crowds.  Afterwards, I may be buying an electric guitar at Guitar Center.  I’ve been mulling it over for a few weeks.  I’ll see how I feel about it tomorrow.

I upgraded my cell phone to an iPhone a few days ago. I’m liking how the interface on this thing works, and there are thousands of cool applications available. In fact, I’m using an iPhone app to write and post this.
I’ll be starting a two week vacation soon. Yay for me!

Work Almost Done

At the beginning of the year, I started a project on Flickr where I take a self-portrait every day for a year. Here’s the photo for today — I’m holding a painting in acrylics that I’ve almost finished. I’m trying to be more creative this year.  You can see the whole set here.

I went over to the river regional park at Knights Ferry two days ago, the first time in months.  My original plan was to go a few miles past Knights Ferry on Highway 108/120 where there’s a bit of a flat expanse, a kind of plateau on the way up the foothills, and get some photos of the wide open, hopefully with clean blue sky and some puffy clouds (it rained the day before).  But instead, halfway between Oakdale and Knights Ferry a dense fog enveloped everything.

I’d not taken photos in the fog before, but thought that flat expanse wouldn’t amount to much in those conditions, so I turned off at Knights Ferry to go by the river.  I spent about two hours wandering around without needing to hike back very far.  It was cold, especially near the water.  Here’s a photo I took by the water’s edge.  The mist rose up on a slight breeze and sucked the warmth out of my fingers as I held the camera.  There are more photos on my flicker page.

A company called Airship Ventures will soon be offering flights aboard a zeppelin around the Bay Area. It’s a little expensive at around $500 for an hour, but it could be lots of fun.
