Here is an outline of the basic argument in a previous post, God — A Thought Experiment. This is bare bones. I’ll clarify some points in later.
- If the God the Standard Model exists, we should expect real differences in the world we observe in contrast to the world we would observe if such a God did not exist.
- One such difference would be that very young children would always be protected from kidnapping and murder, because God has the ability and desire to save the innocent.
- However, in the world we observe, young children sometimes are kidnapped and murdered.
- This observation is more consistent with the hypothesis that the God of the Standard Model does not exist than with the hypothesis that such a God does exist.
- Therefore, such occurrences are evidence that God probably does not exist.

This is nicely condensed. I know you’re busy with the new gig and all (good luck BTW), but when you get a moment, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this:

poppies:
I noticed yesterday that you had returned to your blog with the mad-no-longer post. I am a bit overwhelmed with learning my new duties. I might have something to say in a few days, something along the lines of a variation on “making a virtue of a necessity” perhaps.
I can understand where you’re going, and I thought of that, too. It’s a mistake I thought John was making (though I no longer think so). I’ll be interested to hear you fully expound.
Sorry to hear you’re overwhelmed, I hope things start flowing for you soon.
